MODEST VITAMIN D LEVELS REDUCE THE RISK OF CANCER BY 77%
It is a common fact that vitamin D prevents numerous diseases, including diabetes and heart disease. When it comes to cancer, vitamin D can be considered as the worst enemy of the deadly disease. Several theories and over 200 epidemiological study, the lack of vitamin D is associated with the development of breast cancer.
A 2007 study conducted by Joan Lappe and Robert Heaney involved menopausal women who were given vitamin D. this vitamin was supposed to raise their serum levels to 40ng/ml.
Study’s participants had 77% lower risk of developing cancer after 4 years. Serum level of 40ng/ml is considered as a relatively modest level, and “the sweet spot” for the vitamin is 50-70ng/ml.

VITAMIN D DESTROYS BREAST CANCER CELLS

The doctor explains that vitamin D destroys epithelial cells in every type of breast cancers. E-cadherin keeps these cells together. It is a substance made up of vitamin D and calcium.
Vitamin D destroys these cells, and they can later multiply, proliferate, and turn into abnormal cancer cells.
If you already have breast cancer, vitamin D can inhibit the growth of cancer cells with the help of E-cadherin. Once the growth is inhibited, the immune system starts building up, because it is not forced to deal with abnormal cancer cells.
INCREASE THE VITAMIN D INTAKE TO REDUCE THE RISK OF PRETERM BIRTH BY 50%
Vitamin D not only prevents cancer, it also benefits pregnant women. Science has shown that up to 80% of all pregnant women lack this vitamin.
Carol Wagner and Bruce Hollis have studied the effect of vitamin D in pregnant women. These women received 4,000 IUs of this vitamin. The results of this study showed that vitamin D lowers the incidence of preterm deliveries by whooping 50%.
Vitamin D also helps in treating numerous pregnancy-related problems. It reduces the chances of having a C-section, and also reduces the risk of low weight in newborns.
VITAMIN D IN BLOOD MATTERS
The level of vitamin D in blood is an essential factor, because low serum levels increase your risk, regardless of your vitamin D intake. Do your blood tests regularly to maintain healthy serum levels.
The good thing is that almost all labs have improved their vitamin D tests. Do your vitamin D testing every 3-6 months, because the levels of this vitamin come back to normal within three months after you have taken supplements or been exposed to sun.
Experts have found that the optimal level is 50-70ng/ml. Levels over 20 keep you safe from rickets, above 30 keep your gums strong, and above 40 you get the anticancer potential of this vitamin.
IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GET TOXIC
Spending some time in the sun is one of the best ways to get enough vitamin D. expose about 40% of your body to the sun for at least 20 minutes. You may want to do this somewhere between 10am and 2 pm.
If you are into oral supplementation, take 8,000IUs of vitamin D3 a day in order to increase your serum levels by 40ng/ml. if you take vitamin D orally, keep in mind that you should increase your vitamin K2 intake, too. Vitamin D deficiency has the symptoms of vitamin D toxicity, which actually includes hardening of the arteries. Dr. Kate Rheaume-Bleue says that 150-200 micrograms of K2 a day meet the need of vitamin D in an average adult.
You can also eat more foods rich in vitamin D. this includes salmon, herring, catfish, oysters, mackerel, and sardines. Take 1-3 teaspoons of cod liver oil to increase your vitamin D level.
