A form of rheumatic disease, arthritis is characterized by inflammation and loss of function in some parts of the body. Osteoarthritis damages cartilage, joints, and bones, and is the most common type of arthritis, affecting over 27 million Americans. A 2012 study out of Denmark, published in the journal Arthritis, compared ginger extract to the common drugs cortisone and ibuprofen for the treatment of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
