Baking soda is one of the best remedies that can treat many skin issues. Baking soda falls under the category of physical exfoliants. It works by physically removing the top layer through the abrasive action of the particles within the baking soda mix. What makes it especially effective is that it is a fine, yet hard powder, making it highly effective at removing the dead skin cells without causing excessive irritation.
Exfoliation simply helps this process along; by removing the dead cells from the surface of the skin it helps the new, healthy ones appear at the surface. A good exfoliant has to be effective enough to remove the old cells but not so harsh that it damages the newer growth underneath.
If you want to significantly improve the quality of your skin, you should try the following methods of using baking soda, which will provide you with a smooth, young and spotless skin.
Baking Soda and Water
Baking soda is a powerful facial cleanser, which is extremely effective in removing any dead skin cells, dirt and oil from your skin, in preventing an occurrence of acne and, in unclogging the pores on your face.
In order to clean your skin, you need to take some baking soda in your hand and, to add some warm water. Mix the baking soda and the water until you form a paste.
Dampen your skin with warm water and apply the paste on your face by using gentle circular movements. After applying the paste, you should rinse your face with warm water.
Baking Soda and Ground Oats
Baking soda combined with ground oats is very powerful in cleansing your skin. You can make this mixture by adding ground oats to a combination of equal amounts of baking soda and water.
The amount of the ground oats should be about 1/6 of the baking soda and water mixture. Massage your face with this mixture by using circular movements with your fingertips.
Apart from exfoliating your skin, this mixture will remove the dark circles under your eyes. Keep in mind that you should apply it below your eyes without making any contact with them.
After you are done, you should wash it off with warm water and, your skin will instantly become clear and fresh.
Baking Soda and Lemon
The combination of baking soda and lemon is highly beneficial for disinfecting your skin, for cleaning oily skin, for reducing your age spots and, for providing you with an even skin complexion.
What you should do is to put 2 tablespoons of baking soda and 2 tablespoons of granulated brown sugar into a cup. Fill ¼ of the cup with lemon juice.
Mix these ingredients until they are well combined. Wash your face and, gently apply this mixture on your slightly wet skin. After applying it, leave the mixture to stay for 10 minutes and, wash it off with lukewarm water afterwards.
Baking Soda and Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is helpful in moisturizing your skin. The combination of coconut oil and baking soda will exfoliate and soften your skin.
This mixture is effective in treating dry skin, as well as in relieving any skin inflammation. In order to make this mixture, you should combine equal amounts of baking soda and coconut oil.
However, if you have a sensitive skin, you should double the amount of the coconut oil. After mixing these ingredients, apply the paste on your skin. Keep it for a few minutes and, wash it off with warm water afterwards.
