Herbal teas are an excellent way to get slimmer and also have good health. That being said, with so many varieties in the market, it could be difficult to settle for one. If you can’t decide which one could be your best bet, follow these tips by nutritionist Akansha Jhalani, founder and consultant at Beyond Weighing Scale.
It’s true that herbal tea is a low-calorie beverage but avoids purchasing the flavoured ones. The flavoured herbal tea may have a heightened taste but you should avoid opting for them as most of them contain components of added sugar.
Do not buy any tea with aloe or castor oil as they contain laxative agents that can lead to nausea, diarrhoea and abdominal cramping. Excessive intake of aloe can also lead to drastic weight loss the result of which can be extreme weakness. Here’s how many cups of tea you should drink in a day.
While purchasing herbal tea, look out for a reputed brand to ensure that the ingredients present in them are of high quality. Whether you go for the loose tea leaf or tea bag, opt for the finest quality.
Check for the label. Ensure that the tea does not contain ingredients like cyanide, cyanogen as they can lead to giddiness, sore throat and insomnia. If it contains these ingredients put it back to the shelf.
Few herbal teas are high in caffeine that can increase the heart palpitations, dizziness, vomiting and insomnia. As much as possible try to opt for a caffeine-free herbal tea. The caffeine content depends on some factors like the plant variety and roasting. Oolong tea usually has low caffeine content as it is roasted. What’s more, it reduces fat burning and can reduce the cholesterol level in the body.
