As much as modern medicine progresses, it seems that when it comes to cancer we’re in the same status quo position we’ve been in for years back. There are a number of new treatments and therapies being promoted every day, but the cure for cancer still seems to be in the distance. We’ll give you an example of pancreatic cancer and its more than unenthusiastic survival rates. Despite all the progress modern medicine has made in this direction, the overall 5-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer patients is less than 5% and it’s the 4th leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the world.
Maybe traditional medicine has more answers for this modern-day plague than modern medicine and we should look into some natural remedies that people have been using for centuries. Chinese medicine and the Ayurveda as well have been treating a number of medical conditions with gum resins from Boswellia species, or frankincense successfully.
According to studies, therapeutic grade frankincense oil contains a number of beneficial properties and is effective in the prevention and treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis. It has anti-inflammatory properties and can regenerate bones, cartilage and discs.
The latest study into the benefits of frankincense oil shows that its high levels of boswellic acid give it strong anti-neoplastic properties and successfully fight cancer cells. The scientists behind this study were intent on discovering the best way to prepare frankincense essential oil for the treatment of cancer and to examine how it affects cultured human pancreatic cancer cells and xenograft mouse cancer models. They used hydro distilled (water process) frankincense in 4 different batches at increasing times or temperatures: 78 degrees C at 2 hours, 10 hours, 12 hours, and the fourth at 100 C for 12 hours. The study involved exposing male mice with implanted pancreatic tumor cells which were then given frankincense essential oil or a placebo solution every 4 days. Their discoveries were revolutionary.
Here are the key notes from the study:
Frankincense essential oil successfully caused apoptosis or cell suicide in the pancreatic cancer cells and just after 8 days of therapy the cancer cells started shrinking.
In only 3 hours to start suppressing the growth of pancreatic cancer cells.
The group exposed to frankincense essential oil had noticeably smaller tumors than the control group.
They also tested the ability of Frankincense essential oil to turn off the DNA of cancer cells and help your body heal back to health. (source)
