The majority of people, myself included, always want to have a glass of water beside them while they eat. However, recent research has shown that this habit of drinking water while you eat can do you more harm than good and can be detrimental for your overall health.
Why is drinking water while we eat a bad habit? Experts say that too much fluid during a meal can lead to bloating, poor digestion and improper nutrients absorption. In other words, you shouldn’t drink water at least 30 to 60 minutes before and after a meal. This is a golden rule you should obey if you want to prevent digestive problems. However, if you feel really thirsty and can’t hold on without drinking water, drink it in small sips not in big gulps and certainly not in large quantities. Drinking large amount of liquids while you eat can dilute the hydrochloric acid in the stomach and cause indigestion.
